Pontotoc man arrested in hit and run accident

David Helms Pontotoc Progress A Pontotoc man is being held on $100,000 bond in connection with the hit-and-run death Tuesday afternoon of 21-year-old Lequintray D. Williams, also of Pontotoc, according to the Mississippi Highway Patrol. Highway Patrol officials said that Juan M. Hernandez, 36, of 10th Street in Pontotoc, has been arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving a fatality. Hernandez is being held in the Pontotoc County Jail. At approximately 4:30 p.m. Tuesday (July 15) two vehicles collided at the intersection of Mississippi Highways 278 (four lane) and 345 in Pontotoc County, officials said. Patrol officials said that Hernandez’s pickup was apparently southbound on MS 345 when it collided with Williams eastbound vehicle which was traveling on US 278 four lane. Williams was pronounced dead at the crash site, patrol officials said. Witnesses told investigators yesterday a black Dodge pick-up truck left the scene going south on Highway 345 (Cherry Creek Road). MBI agents located the pick-up truck in a wooded area off County Road 900 in Lee County near the Pontotoc County line. The exact time and location of Hernandez’s arrest was not available.
