Tis the season alright–for thieves to steal valuables from your car.
Pontotoc Police Chief Larry Poole said 12 vehicles were burglarized in Pontotoc the weekend of December 14.
Poole said all of the vehicles were unlocked and setting in the owner’s driveway or carport.
“In all these so far, there was no forced entry,” Poole said.
“The thieves are just looking through the glove box, in and under the seats and the trunk if they can hit a button and open it,” Poole warned.
The car burglaries occurred around midnight or after.
Car burglaries were reported on Waters Street, Ridgewood Drive, Oakview Cove, West Reynolds Street, Fall Drive and Dogwood Drive, he said.
“Even if a car is locked, it’s not a safe place to leave any valuables,” Poole warned.
“Thieves are looking for easy opportunities, especially unlocked vehicles late at night, even cars sitting in the driveway.”
Valuables stolen included: sunglasses, money, GPS, cell phones, Ipod, Macbook computer, a hunting knife and a pistol.
Poole said that a 40-inch flat screen television (still in the box) was also stolen from a residence on Ninth Street.
Poole said two suspects have been questioned in connection with the burglaries, but no arrests have yet been made.
Poole said a reward has been offered for information leading to an arrest in connection with the burglaries.
“Anyone with info on someone trying to pawn off any of these items is urged to call the police department,” Poole said.
“Or if anyone’s seen anyone suspicious in their neighborhood, call us.”
“We have reason to believe that as many as four suspects are involved, and they’re just parking and running up and going through a vehicle in a matter of seconds looking for anything they can steal quickly.”
